Situation of health education in the 21st century

With the constant process of evolution in our civilization, the majority of us can live now in comfort and with a high sense of security. The medicine is advancing, and we now came to a point where the numbers of diseases which can have fatal outcomes are in a constant process of reduction. The majority of the world’s population who lives in the city are not even aware of the serious situations in which developing countries are. There are several countries that are in a constant battle with malaria, AIDS/HIV and several other diseases which are making thousands of victims every year. No wonder that health education is getting more and more importance over the world. It is the belief of every medic that the prevention of getting viruses and bacterial diseases is the best way of stopping epidemics and the spreading of illness. This is very easy for us to understand: every one of us will go home and wash their hands before having a meal. But there are several places in the world where the situation is not this simple.

We have now heard about the heroic fight of many non profit organizations that are gathering volunteers to help fight large epidemics in Africa. There are several countries where the population is exposed to diseases. In these countries especially health education is very important even from a very early age. Due to the rugged geographical area it is hard to get medical help, and the situation is even more aggravated by the fact that there are very few doctors and dentists for a lot of people.

But not only Africa is in the situation described above. For example Nepal was in a similar situation regarding eye care. There is only one ophthalmologist for every 250 000 people. That is, that in a city with a population of a quarter of a million, there would be only one qualified ophthalmologist. It should be noted though, that the number of ophthalmic assistants are a bit higher, with a ratio of 300 for a quarter of a million. Of course these data come from a survey done in 1981, and there had not been done any similar surveys yet, so we can imagine that the current situation is better – especially due to the fact that there had been several efforts in eye care education.

Health education is therefore something which is absolutely necessary in order to have a healthy population. In the United Stated in the majority of states health education has been introduced in the curriculum of schools, a decision which had been made also in several other countries. Educating children about health is the best method of fighting against diseases and which is most important, for the governments at least, it is also the cheapest way.Find everything you need for cheap health insurance by getting InsureLane's free health insurance quotes online quickly and easily.
